The Cost-Effective Alternative to Veneers

Dental health is important to overall health. Not only is poor oral health linked to the development of other issues in the body, but even concerns about your smile can, in fact, create negative mental health conditions. This is why a treatment like veneers can help resolve many issues related to your oral wellness, smile, and beyond.

But what if you already know you can’t afford veneers? Is there a cost-effective option? Yes, there is. It’s called dental bonding.

Here at Downtown Dental Studio, we aim to offer our patients as many options as possible so that they can choose the best treatment for their needs. Fadi Beydoun, DMD, MS, Alexander Kimon, DMD, and Karina Zaygermakher, DMD, can teach you about dental bonding and how and why it could be a great alternative to veneers.

Just the facts: what dental bonding is and how it works

Dental bonding, also sometimes simply called bonding, is a procedure that changes the look and shape of one or more teeth so that they are all more uniform. The procedure utilizes resin that matches the color of your natural teeth, so everything looks the same. Bonding is done in the office and takes about an hour per tooth.

When you choose to have dental bonding done, your provider matches the resin to your tooth color. Then, they create a rougher surface on your natural tooth before applying the resin. Finally, your provider uses a laser, which causes the resin to harden, trims it, and polishes it to look like all your other natural teeth.

Dental bonding can cover up cracks and chipped teeth, elongate teeth that are shorter than others, and cover up gaps between your teeth. Most of the time, it’s used to create cosmetic effects, but in some cases, it can help cover up exposed tooth roots.

Why you might choose dental bonding over veneers

Veneers are a wonderful — and popular — choice for treating many dental issues. But unfortunately, some people can’t afford this option. However, you can have one veneer placed over a tooth, causing issues; a single veneer can cost much more than dental bonding for a single tooth. This is exponentially true when dealing with multiple teeth.

As such, many people might choose to bond over veneers simply because the former is so much cheaper. If you’re also someone who already takes very good care of their teeth, you’re likely to get great benefits from bonding, which will last longer and look better with proper care.

You may also want to consider bonding if you have minor issues with your smile, such as gaps in your teeth or one tooth that’s longer than the others. Because it doesn’t require heavy removal of healthy tooth enamel, it’s considered a gentler option that can still give you the look you want.

Is dental bonding right for you?

Bonding is a gentle, cost-effective choice that can treat cosmetic and health-related concerns. If you’ve always wanted to create a smile you can be proud of or want to treat another issue; bonding could be the answer.
